Next Day...

The birthday happened.  I'm thinking we should've altered plans, but it's done now.   The drive over was iffy.  The movie was fun.  Repeat is not an option for the restaurant we ate at; pricey, meh food & poor service.  The biggest problem was the heat.  It hammered me.  The house never did really cool down, with us being gone so long & no AC running.   So, maybe we should've waited.  But, we had no idea how long this movie would be playing & the heat looks to be here for a bit.

I need to get around.  I have to shower, eat, do trash & head to my telemed appointment.  I'm tired just thinking about it.  Tomorrow we'll handle the bank & bills.

That's it for now, take care.

Busy December Morning...

We have errands & shopping this morning.   Then we have to take trash out for a postponed pickup.  That'll happen next week as well.  After that, we're heading to a friends for a bit.  This will wrap up the holidays for us.

Yesterday went well.  It wasn't our normal, but, it could be a new part of our holiday to bring my roomie's stepmom along.  None of us many people left in the area.

This season has been a bit disappointing.  Beyond the stress brought by the asshat in orange, there just was so little umph put into the holiday.   The most decor & music I witnessed was at IHOP yesterday.   Even when I was very anti-holidays, I still enjoyed the lights.  There so few of them this year.

I hope your holidays are going well, take care & be kind to yourselves.

Another Outing...

We'll be heading out soon.  This is a postponed venture for my birthday.  It having anything to do with that day makes me nervous.   It'd be nice if this went  drama-free.

We're going to see a move, it's been a bit.  Then we'll grab something to eat.  This will wrap up my birthday stuff.  That will leave another outing on Thursday for my roomie.

This is being a busy week.  That's it for now.  Take care.

Outing & True Colors...

We went to see a movie yesterday & it went well.  The only real annoyance was all the stoplights.  I hate blinking yellow turn lights.  It was a pretty good day for us.

As the year ends, there are memes thanking the year for showing the poster the "true colors" of people around them.  It makes the round every December.

If you pay attention to what people do more than they say, they're almost always telling you who they really are.  Sometimes you get surprised & can only roll with it.  I'm sure a lot of posters are referring to the election this year.  I wish it hadn't gone this way, but I'm not surprised.  There are too many people who can't handle the thought of a woman in charge, especially a woman of color.  There were too many people who couldn't get off the butts & vote.  Finally, fortune doesn't usually lean my way.

You don't have to be a mind reader to know people's "true colors", just pay attention.  Whether it's politics, life or movie reviews, people can't help outing themselves.  Sometimes we try too hard to see people as we'd like them to be & not as they are.

Take care.

Rushed Morning...

This is a hurried morning.  We have things to do & need to get around on the way.  We're going to see a movie & get something to eat.  It's been a while.  I just wish it wasn't another dark day.  They're really getting to me.

That's about it for now.   Take care.

Internet Out...

It turns out Optimum sucks just like Suddenlink.  The net's been out since 7 last night & we still have no updates.  I hate this.  I just want to get the stuff done I was going to do.

Yesterday was a good day until this happened.   The movie went well & we had a good meal.  I guess it was too much for everything if something crappy didn't happen.

That's all for now, take care.

Little Steps...

We took a step yesterday back towards our old normal.  We went to see a movie.  It was nice to be out of the house.  We saw Meg: 2.   The movie was  what we expected.  We picked up food on the way home.  It was a good excursion.  We needed it.

That's it for now, take care.

Unpleasant Ending...

Woke to our hottest morning so far this season.  That wasn't fun.  The heat combined with the humidity made things stifling.   Got the house opened up to let some muggy air out.  The AC will be on today.  We've got to go shopping & get meds this morning.  Other than that nothing much.

We've had some bad luck with movies lately, stuff we thought we'd like.  Turns out a lot of it was just boring, cheap & highly unoriginal.  Oh well, I suppose they can't all be winners.  But do most have to be bombs?

Goodbye June, you were no fun.  Get a grip on yourself before next year. That's all for now, take care.

Marker Events...

Today was a 1st marker event day.  There were 2 of them.  The 1st happened as I opened the back door this morning.  I saw a little figure darting around the Rose of Sharon blooms.   The 1st Hummer of the year has arrived.  It looked decent sized, but not quite adult.  That's a very good way to start the morning.

The to bring it all down, I check Netflix to see if the DVD I sent off had registered.   It hadn't yet, it might not until tomorrow.  It was sent off in the later mail.  I noticed there was an extra movie in my queue.  When I looked, it was a dvd that had been on my Saved list.   Then I saw it, my Saved list was at 0.

It hasn't been at zero in over 20 years.  My queue was at 50 & hasn't seen a number that low in about 2 decades.  This service that got me through so much, it's really going away.  I will miss the little red envelopes, the movies only available on dvd & the routine.  There's another thing gone, another tradition swept away & I'm told how surprised people are that I still used it.

I hate this.  When the dvd's are over, so is my time with Netflix.  They've taken a bit from my small pool of joy.  I can't forgive them for that.  I know it wasn't personal on their part.  But, it most certainly was on mine.  If this is to be the way of company that brought tiny moments of escape, then I wish for them nothing.  Nothing is what they deserve; not good, not bad, just nothing.  Maybe with that, it's all Netflix will be, nothing.

Thank you little hummer for the joy you brought me.  To Netflix, the thief that stole from my resources to make it through, kindly F' Off!  There always has to be a Bruce.

Not Looking Forward...

My roomie is looking forward to a movie coming this Fall.  I used to do that a lot.  There are things I note the day of their arrival but I don't really have the anticipation I used to have.  I don't know if it's I'm just disconnected  from what's being produced or that I have so much dread of the way it will be handled.  For, whatever reason, I just don't get that excited for much these days.

There have been several franchises & properties brought to screen that I should've loved.  However, the makers altered  these things so much I couldn't stand them.  Sometimes, it was to make the older property more palatable to modern sensibilities.   Others, the product was just cheap &/or bad.  Then you have those  makers that  just want to make their mark on a beloved icon.  Those people, well all the above, should be shot.  Those people should've just made something new & left the original alone.

There are covers, tributes & bastardizations.  Tributes are  just remakes clinging as close as possible to the original.  They're  sweet, but don't really need to  be produced.  They add nothing to the story.  Covers take the concept & add to it.  They further the work without sacrificing the original.  Unfortunately, these days bastardizations by egotistical, needy little  cretins seem to be the most common.  Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a good example.

These people have made me dread when something I used to love is being remade.  I despise most of the cartoon remakes of my favorites that  have happened in the last 5 years.  I've hated movies they've altered from the original just to make a better sale.  I have no connection to these newer pieces.  Then they insult people by telling us to just get over it & that these things weren't made for people like me.  Some of these things are the only reason I'm still here & I hate everyone who helped  take them from me.  May that which they love be corrupted for the entertainment of others.

I still find things I like & they are nice little gifts.  They surprised me.  But I don't wait in anticipation of things anymore.  I  think that may gone for me.  For that, I'm angry & sad.  Some movies & shows I loved so much that they got me through my hard times have been to the point I can't even look at them.  I wish these people nothing but utter rot.  Rot of  everything in their lives, especially that which they held dearest.

Rant's over, take care.  I hope you still  have  things  to look forward to.

Input & Aspirin...

This article is about research into the use of daily, low-dose aspirin to aid in preventing the spread of HIV.  I don't understand all the in's & out's.  It concerns inflammation & aspirin's ability to lower that condition.  Interesting read.

We saw Christopher Robin yesterday & it was great.  I'm glad we were able to see this is in the theater.  If we'd listened to the critics, we may not  have.   I use the word, critic, loosely.  These weren't people providing proper critical analysis of a piece.  No, they were mostly whiny, self-aggrandizing, narrow-minded brats.  That assessment of them is me being kind.  The reviews were awful.  I hate Yelp & other similar services.  It made these people's already gargantuan sense of self worth grow to a planetary size.  Their ego's & conceit know no bounds.

We waited & saw people, everyday folk, not alleged critics, were loving the movie.  I'm glad we ignored them.  The point is, even though others' input can be nice or even helpful, the decision is yours & you have to accept the consequences.  This movie was wonderful.  We had a good outing.  If we'd listened, we wouldn't have went.  That would've been because we placed stock in the word of strangers & their soap-box, fist-waving, ideology based blasting of a film.

Your choices are yours.  Make sure you're making them for you.

Happy Holidays...

Short post.  I hope everyone is having a good holiday.  We're going to see a movie & we're short on time this morning.   More tomorrow.

Merry Christmas.

Happy Solstice...

Yule is here & the 12 days begin.  The Oak King overcomes the Holly King & we begin our journey back into the light of the year.   Too bad, this means Winter's just begun.

We wanted to see the new movie, The Shape Of Water.  Doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon,  It's been out for various stages of release since the beginning of December.   I hope it gets here.  At least we still have our Christmas classic, Star Wars, to go see.

I started the new blood pressure med this morning.  I'm not sure how long it will take to notice any thing.  Cold weather always pushes my blood pressure up.   So far, so good.

Some how we've made it up to 70 F today.  The rest of the week is supposed to be seasonal  & then drop into colder temps for a while.  I hope it won't be too cold.   I don't want to freeze or bust pipes.

That's about it for now.  Take care.

Rough Going...

We went to see a movie yesterday.   That was the good part of the day.  A lot of everything was annoying & somewhat painful.    The movie was running late.   We normally try to get to a movie 20+ minutes before opening.  This lets us get better seats, go to the restroom, get drinks, etc...  Yesterday, it allowed us to wait in a line for 30 minutes, because the previous showing was running that late.   So, there we stood for 30 minutes.  My feet hate me.  The movie was good, but just about everything around it was vexing.  I'm tired today & don't feel like doing much of anything.

Portrayed...

Occasionally, I see articles or hear discussions on  how there aren't enough people with HIV shown on TV or in films.   1st off, there are + people shown, just not many.  How many do we need?

2nd, I'm not sure I want to see + people on TV.  How will they portray us?   Will we be stupid, slutty or victims?    I've seen how they handle gay people & that's not been great.

Although HIV is a huge illness, it's not like everyone has it  or that half the folks on TV should be +.  I simply don't trust TV producers to present people living with the virus in an accurate way across the spectrum of people who have it from rich to poor, urban to rural & every color you can think of.

HIV should be a topic of many conversations.  But it shouldn't be entertainment.  Or worse, product placement for meds.

Med Issues & HIV...

OK, my pharmacy still isn't on board with my new med yet, no surprise there.  They say call back later today.  Same thing they said yesterday.  Acquired Hypothyroidism is what my doctor is calling this condition.   I have it in my family (always before in women) & I have HIV.  Even though my numbers are good, my body is still being affected.  Thyroid issues are reasonably common in HIV patients.  The thyroid can seriously mess you up.  Google it.

This med has caused me to shuffle again.  The problem here is it has interactions with my other meds & needs to be taken on an empty stomach.  I already have a med that needs to be taken on an empty stomach & it's 1 of the drugs this new Levothyroxine doesn't like.

This new med interacts with my Didanosine, Norvir & even my multivitamins.   Most the drug interactions I've faced have altered the efficacy of my HIV meds.  That's not the case this time.  In this instance my other meds are lowering the efficacy of the thyroid med.    They'll have to be spaced out & the new 1 will have to be taken some ways after eating.  New meds are always so much fun.

OK, let's talk about drug interactions again.  They happen all the time & your doctor may not know about them. You need to know about them.  It could literally save your life.  If you find 1 talk to your doctor about it.  Here are 2 websites for checking your medications for interactions.

PS - I saw a trailer for a new movie about HIV survivors coming, check it out, Desert Migration.

Hello November...

With Halloween done, October is in the rear view mirror.  We're officially into the holiday season, yippie.  Hopefully, the stores won't pound us with holiday music too early.

We had a pretty decent Halloween.   The repairmen  showed up early & were able to fix the washer fairly cheap.   We got to see John Wick.  It was a decent action action flick.

After that we stopped by & got some Chinese to take home.  You know you're in a crappy area, when mall, food court Chinese, is about the best you can consistently get  your hands.  Then we made it home with our food.  October ended  with TV & lo mein.

November started with a quick run to Walmart to raid the remaining Halloween candy.  It'd been marked down 50%.   That's another holiday tradition for us, getting the candy once the holiday has passed.

Hello November.  Let's do this right & not suck.   I have at least 1 dentist appointment, probably 2.  It'll just depend on how things lay out for my crown replacement.   There's also a specialist appointment.  We can't forget about holiday shopping & Thanksgiving.   Looks like a busy month.

Heading Out...

We're going to see a movie if all goes well today.  We have to go do some shopping & then wait to see if we hear back from the repairman we had to call about the washing machine.  It's been giving us problems.

If he gets here & does his thing in time, we'll head for the theater.   If not, we'll just go get some Chinese food.  What a Halloween tradition.

Actually, we had our major point of Halloween last night.  We watched the Great Pumpkin.  It's not my fav Charlie Brown, but it's probably  my 2nd.   Peanuts, is always an odd thing for me.  I always liked the idea of it more than I actually liked the strip.   Its a great comic & has some wonderful parts.  Still, I never connected to it as a work, as much as I did an idea.   Or maybe that's an ideal.

Whatever it may be, it's still part of our tradition.  Lucy & Linus Van Pelt will always be my favorite characters of the strip.   Maybe next year Linus will find the right pumpkin patch.

Have a great Halloween everyone.

Sore Chest...

My chest & sides are sore from all the coughing.  It seems to be settling down some.  I got cough syrup yesterday.  I hope it helps.

I'm heading out to see Godzilla.  I've been pretty good about not coughing mid afternoon.  Maybe that'll hold true.

I'll write more tomorrow.  Maybe I'll be past this cough & will have met my kaiju quota for a while.

A Little Irritated...

Whether I be a mouse or a man, my plans usually get screwed with on a regular basis.  It gets very tiring.  It's difficult being a person who likes basic plans when life refuses to cooperate at all.

My meds arrived yesterday.  Wonders of wonders, my pharmacy screwed up my order, again.  They somehow forgot to tell me, 1 of my meds needed a refill order from my doctor & it didn't get shipped with the others.  I already had to reschedule the damn delivery once, because of a previous schedule issue.

I call & get the order rescheduled for Monday.  At the time I didn't have anything scheduled for Monday.  Silly me, I just failed to foresee the need to reschedule our trip to the movies.   Tomorrow, when we had planned on seeing the film is now forecast to having freezing rain.  I'm not driving 30+ miles to & fro in freezing rain just to see a movie.

My roomie suggested Monday & I was like, "Sure, that'll work..." Oh wait, no it won't.  Because I had to reschedule that damnable drug delivery for Monday, because my pharmacy screwed up again.   My roomie generally has stuff planned on the surrounding days.

I know she doesn't mind having to alter here schedule if it needs to happen.  I just hate when it has something to do with an issue of mine.  I seriously hope who ever screwed up my order this time has a nasty accident, preferably a fabulously, nasty accident with just a touch of the humiliating.

It looks like we'll be seeing Bilbo on Sunday instead of Friday.  Unless of course something else decides to screw with my schedule.  Virgos should definitely rule the world.   Then there would be order in the cosmos.
