Goodbye August, Goodbye Me...

This is the last day of August & me for this year.  This is my final day being 54.  This was not a horrible month, but it wasn't a good August.  August should be bright, blazing, dry.  It should be the door closing on Summer.  These days, Summer's here  through most of September.  Labor day used to be the closing of the season party.  Now it's more like a warning that last call's coming soon.  August failed at being Augustic.

For my last birthday, we went to a restaurant we  hadn't been to before.   The food was good, but the atmosphere was weird.  It had nothing to do with the place, it was the effect COVID was having on everything.

I knew we wouldn't go see a movie, but I figured by the holidays things would open enough for that & my roomie's birthday.  My hopes were misplaced.  I knew  COVID was serious,  But  I didn't count on the raging stupidity of the American herd beast.  By October the numbers were soaring.  It meant we did nothing for  my roomie's birthday.  But at least by December there was word of a vaccine.  We signed up in 2020.  We had both doses by April Fools.

Yet, fooled was what we were.  By mid Summer the numbers plummeted & life tried to settle back into a normalcy.  That didn't last long.  Between Summer events, anti-vaxxers, the Delta Strain & school openings, numbers  are soaring  again.

Last year's me was hopeful, not so much this year.   I've spent a  lot of this year angry, stressed, resentful & wishing harm on everyone.  For at least today, I'm trying not to.  I'm trying to focus on this last day I share with August.

My birthday wish is for COVID to come to an end, however that may have to happen.  Line them up & vaccinate them like cattle.  Line them up & shoot them like a firing squad.  Dump them in the deepest parts of the oceans for fish food.  Just bring COVID to and end & don't replace it with something as bad or worse.

Happy last  day to August & me.

Early Morning....

It was an early morning.  My roomie has an outing & she had to be out of here by 9 AM.  I'm up & she's off.  I hope her trip goes well.   I'm not the most with it this morning.

I didn't notice much in the way of articles.  So, a bit of a recap over me.   I'm slowly mending.  It's weird & awkward.  There are a lot of moments of ache & wondering how I made that muscle hurt.   I'm still weaker than normal & won't be doing anything major for a while.   But, at least I'm at home & not in a hospital.  That's about it for now.

Take care.

Recovering...

To start with, I feel a lot better than yesterday.  I'm still not great, but way better.  For that I'm grateful.  I felt like crap yesterday.

Turns out the  van had not 1, but 2, tires about to blow.  They're were both in the back & showing extreme wear issues on the interior wheel side.  At least 1 had developed a pooched out spot & was causing the bouncing & the noise.  The mechanics were amazed they hadn't already blown.

We're actually going to see the movie were supposed to see last Friday.  I hope it all goes well.  Here's hoping, no more car issues.

Zombies...

America's Next Top Model started last night & the beginning was great.  Bet you wondering why I put Dawn of the Dead with AMNT.

I hate unnecessary build up.  I mean foreplay is one thing, but repeating the same old thing over & over is just boring.  In the 2004 remake of the Zombie flick we just jump right into nastiness that is zombies.  There are not explanations, there are not build ups, rehashings or recappings.  I hate incessant recapping & far too many of my favorite shows do it; Naruto & Income Property are two examples.  These are thirty minute slots, but after you take out the intro, out-take & commercials you're left with about 17 - 18 minutes.  If you take out all the recapping & talking about what will happen on the next episode you might actually be down to 12 - 14 minutes.  Which we means minus all the commercials & fluff you could actually show four of these type programs in an hour instead of two.  Stop, just let the zombies hit the ground running & eating.

Tyra skipped the freak fest that so many reality shows embrace these days like American Idol & So You Think You can Dance.   I can schadenfreude with the best of them, but the pure perversity of the auditions of Idol & SYTYCD are just hellish & cruel.  Get to the point, we know the process now, you don't need to show again.  If someone hasn't watched the show before there are reruns & the show can probably be got off Netflix.  So why don't we just get down to business?

It's like all the superhero films coming out.  Every single one of them has to do an origin piece that takes up most of the first movie.  Iron Man did this & there are countless wikis out there that cover his origin for those few people out there that didn't already know it.   Stop over explaining.  Most of the movie-going, TV-watching audience isn't stupid even though you'd think we were from the drivel we're given to watch.

Everybody knows Superman came from Krypton, Batman's parent got shot, Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider.  These things are now so ingrained in out culture that they are a given.  We know that most of the people who try out for talents shows are delusional, attention-grabbing freaks.  We get it. We comprehend. We dig it.  What else do we have to say just to get you to let the Zombies get down to the business eating brains?
