But, But But...

 

Over the years I've read about many plans to end HIV.  Many of them sound possible if funded well enough.  Still, it never takes long for someone or some group to start picking at the plan.  It doesn't do this or that.  It doesn't focus on that group or these people.  Often the plan is abandoned.  The latest of these plans is already being ambushed.  I didn't even read this plan, but apparently it for some it doesn't do enough for children.  It will probably be trashed.

People please, no plan will ever be perfect.  We have to start somewhere & refocus as needed.  Who ever said it was going to be just 1 plan?   If every plan gets torn to shreds, nothing will ever move forward.  

Maybe that's exactly what these people really.  If HIV gets fixed what will their project?  What will they focus on?  What will be their identity?   I really do think some people would rather keep their identity as an HIV or other ailment activist than actually see the illness cured.  Talk about Munchausen's .

Self Love...

Found an article about Rae Lewis Thornton.  She's an HIV activist diagnosed with AIDS in the early 90's.  Before that,  she worked with various political efforts as she put herself through school.   After finding her status, she went public.  She was on the cover of Essence magazine revealing her condition.  She's been involved with HIV activism ever since.

She asks a simple, but hard question, "Are you sleeping with someone you love or someone you want to love you?"   This article is aimed at young women.  Still, I think it applies to everyone, definitely those who come from a rough background.   It's about learning to love yourself.

It's not cliche & it's a good read.   The 1st line from the new song in Cats (2019), is, "All that I wanted was to be wanted."  Beautiful Ghosts is about  fear & desperation.  It may sound pretty but the thought is terrifying.  To be that desperate makes you very vulnerable.  Many would take advantage.

This piece is about accepting yourself.  Seeing yourself as worth loving & protecting.  That it's up to you to learn to keep yourself as safe as possible from things like HIV & horrible people.

Click Yuck...

I was upset yesterday, I couldn't get to an article on the Washington Post.  The title alleged Facebook was allowing posts with misinformation about HIV.   The material showed up today in other pieces.  CNET & Newsweek   & others covered it.

This wasn't about HIV, it was about PrEP.  Activists are accusing Facebook of hosting ads promoting misleading information about the drug.  They say the pills can cause serious health  issues.  Any HIV med can, including PrEP.  Most meds on the market today can cause health issues, including death.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems the activists are angry Facebook didn't down the PrEP Kool-Aid.  Facebook said the ads don't violate their policies & have 3rd party groups to verify data.  

PrEP may be a helpful med, but it isn't without risks.  Every med carries risk.  Warning people about potential side effects of the med is not being anti anything.  PrEP may help in the fight against HIV, but it isn't THE ANSWER.   PrEP has developed a near cult like following.  Be careful with any info presented about it, for or against.
