As Ready As I'm Going To Get...

We had the 1st serious colder night.  It didn't quite get below freezing, but still.  The freezing temps are supposed to happen later in the week.  The full, seasonal load of blankets went on the bed & it was the 1st night with the heater.

Even with the heater on low, it takes some getting used to.  The heaters & blankets are necessary, but they're hell on me.  They mess with eyes, skin & breathing.  I overslept, after sleeping weird.  I was dehydrated to the point of low blood pressure & a nose bleed.  Hello Winter, I hate you.

The holiday is almost here.  I'm already over it & wish they were just done already.  They'll mean nothing for me except annoyance & missed mail.  Maybe, I feel better about them next year.

That's all for now, take care.

Chilly Night...

I haven't used my fan in the past couple of nights.  I'll have to readjust to house & outdoor noises.  That'll take a bit.   Last night was the 1st night I pulled a blanket over me in months.

I had a rough wake up this morning.  I'm not sure if it's seasonal change or if allergies are finally trying to kill me. Speaking of which, this is the 1st day in months pollen levels haven't been in the high zone.  They're still at medium high at pollen.com, but they're going down.

That's all for for now, take care.   Best wishes for everyone except for the idiot that just started mowing outside my window.  I could've done without that noise.

Now That Bites...

I was listening to my fav internet radio station a couple of days ago & it had reset to the main channel.  I was about to change it when I heard it playing some interesting cover songs.  I have a love-hate relationship with covers.  If you can't bring anything new to the party while still respecting the spirit of the original piece then leave it alone.

After a bit they began to play Slade's Cum On Feel The Noize being covered by Quiet Riot.   I was in college when this song came out of & my then roomie absolutely loved this song.  I pretty much hated it.  He always told me if I gave it a chance I'd like it.  I told him, fat chance.  Turns out he was right.  It played & I almost immediately skipped the song.  I got distracted & the song played & I have to say that I still don't like it, however there is a mighty big but coming.

This crappy, psuedo-metal song of the 80's absolutely kicked the ass of anything I have heard on mainstream radio in years.  This throw-away cover song was better than anything on the Top-40 for the last year.  It was a performance by a singer with a voice that had character & impact.  The song was ragged & rough.  The delivery wasn't over produced.  Most of all, it was never aimed at a bunch of damned tweens.  Compared to the crap on the radio today, Quiet Riot's cover was a freakin' masterpiece. This is all the more reason  for me to despise the tween pop music generation.   They Katy Perries, Kesha & Beibers made me appreciate Quiet Riot, damn them.

Outside The Lines

My roomie & I have been out of the box people for a while.  We're by no means hipsters, but we've both been posting about this for a bit.  Life is not one size fits all, some of it will never fit anyone.  You have to make the best of any situation you wind up in.  (Yes, I know ended in a preposition, but I was breaking grammatical rules before there english books, HA, my nod to the hipsters).

I read this blog today.  It was how you can choose to receive & interact with a new coloring book.  The post was remarkably, nonjudgmental, therefore quite refreshing.  It let you approach the pages of provided ideas with your own take on how it should be handled, from doing nothing, doing the expected or completely making it your own by adding to the given concept.  Any talk of conformity & coloring always reminds me of one of the potentially saddest songs ever done, Flowers Are Red, by Harry Chapin.

I think that Lady Gaga's new song is a cross between a 1990's gay anthem & Madonna's Express Yourself, but it does make a point.  I'm not into the godliness of it, but I get the point.

I do like this one, but I think what it will inspire, will be even better.  So, it's your life, your coloring book, so go all Sinatra & do it your way.  It may not be easy.  It might even get you ridiculed.  But, if it is genuinely you, you'll be happier for just being yourself.
