2nd Week Of May 2026...

 

The 1st week of May is in the bag.  So far it's been OK, maybe it'll stay that way.  Other than me having some basic appointments, there shouldn't be much happening.

I saw 2 articles, the 1st piece is about about the Bangor Maine area.  The state wasn't known as a HIV hotspot until about 2023.  A combination of social net failures, personal financial issues & cuts in health & welfare systems fueled this event.  It's been years in the making & now, all of this is worse than when it started.

The 2nd piece is about gut biome & immunity among HIV patients.  It's a limited piece but still a good read.  It might be a jumping point for those interested in the topic.

3 Things...

 

Found 2 interesting pieces this morning.  1st, an article over HIV & the gut.  It talks of the gut's relation to the virus & possibilities in treatment.  The gut & gut biome have been historically left out of many medical conversations.    

The 2nd was a piece over care centered on a person's involvement with their own HIV journey.  This starts with a person's active involvement in prevention of HIV.  Patient centered care should have always been the push, but it's easier for the medical professionals to say "just do this."  People must be active in their healthcare.

Finally, the ongoing.  The car is back & it might work.  Next appointment is a brake job.  Things are coming together for my roomie's personal plans.  There's a lot more planning there.  For the moment, I think we're as caught up as we can be.

Gut...

I've talked about the human microbiome  before.  This article is over a specific type of biome & it's relationship with HIV.  It's an interesting read on how a certain type of biome can be found in MSM with high risk HIV.   There aren't a lot of conclusions yet, but it's novel start.

I have a bit more on my plate this morning, so I need to be brief.   It's been dreary & shows no sign of brightening up so far this morning.  I found a blip of an article dealing with HIV transmission & the gut biome.  It was limited but interesting.

Last January Thursday...

It's a little hard to believe the January is almost over already.  This month has flown for me,   I guess being sick made em lose time.

The news side of things is still lacking.  People are still reacting to Trump.  According to some sources, Russia has decided it can't afford to foot the bill in the fight against HIV in their country.    Russia is considered the largest & fastest growing HIV population in Asia.  Yet, they think they have better things to spend their money on than fight HIV.  Good luck with that.

This article isn't directly about HIV.  It's another 1 over the microbiome.    Specifically, how the biome may tie into medical treatments across the board.  Interesting read.

Workshop....

This isn't much of an article, but I do find it interesting.   It's about an upcoming workshop on HIV & the microbiome.  It's being held by the NIH at their campus.  It will discuss the impact & affect of the microbiome on HIV & it's treatment/prevention.   This would be a very interesting symposium to attend.    If you're in the area, you might see if you can get to it.   It's November 17 - 18.

Gut Bacteria II...

This is post is a continuation of the original Gut Bacteria post 2 days ago.  I'm not going much into this, but this article continues with the subject.  It promotes the use of probiotics as a means of aiding treatment & recovery for those people living with HIV.   It'll be interesting to see where this research takes the matter.

Gut Bacteria...

In the last few years there've been a lot of studies over the biome &/or gut bacteria.   This article gives information on Spanish research over the correlation between gut bacteria & immune recovery in HIV patients.   The article isn't as thorough as I'd like, but it's newer research.  It's an interesting read.  Goes to show, the body has be viewed as a whole if we hope to push medicine forward.
