Steps Taken Towards...

For a while, my roomie has made commitments to herself to try to make changes in her life.  I won't comment on those these, but I will say they were for her benefit & of her choosing.  These were things she pursued & bit by bit she made progress.

I'd like to make a few notes here.  She choose to these pursuits & they were to improve her life & well being.  She made choices & adhered to the steps it took to get there.  She put in the effort to make these things happen.

There is something important, acknowledgement.  She will be wrapping up some parts of her journey soon.  There needs to recognition a set goal was met & possibly exceeded.  There needs to be a goodbye to these things.  The steps she took, the place she was, those who aided her & to the self that opted to begin this journey.

All of these things may have just been the beginning, but she took the steps.  She's no longer where she was, nor is she who she will become as this continues.  Acknowledgement, recognition & farewells are important.   Her life may be improving, but she's still leaving an aspect behind.  All of this deserves it's moment.

Make your goals, your plans, take your steps, keep record of your pursuit.  But never forget how & why you're heading down your path.  Take care.

And Again...

I thought I could get by with a decent morning.  I was  wrong.  The gas company is out there messing with things.  We thought this was settled, but we won't know until they're gone.  I didn't need more crap.  I don't need them messing with the house's gas lines.  They're fine & rather newish.  I need to go shopping, but I'm not sure I trust them enough to not fuck shit up.  Tomorrow, we deal with the van & my roomie is supposed to have a friend over.  Then it's the holidays.  I don't need more on my plate.  I hate waking up, there's almost always something crappy lurking.

House Puzzle...

The house project is coming along.  We got slowed down a bit by the flu shot.  We've encountered another issue though.  In a house like this, every step is like a slide puzzle.  Anytime a new piece comes in, there's space to slide the pieces.

A newer piece didn't turn to to be what we thought it  would.  It can't do what it we needed it to do.  Now, the configuration we had won't function well.  This issue will have to be resolved before moving forward.

We'll get there.  It's just extra steps.  The other projects are moving along.  At least we got to watch the Great Pumpkin last night.

That's all for now, take care.

Storm F'ery...

Barely here post.  There was a big storm last night.  It damaged part of an old, storage barn.  I spent an hour hammering it back together.  I feel more like crap now.  I have stuff to do, so this is it for today.  More tomorrow.

Morning Shot...

I actually woke up well this morning.  That got shot when I went into the front room & saw a problem I thought I'd fixed wasn't.  I had to spend a lot of time & energy on that issue.  Now I'm spent.  I have no idea if there were any good articles today.  I'm too tired to care.  I hate this house.  Everything in it is timebomb.   Either I'm wasting time rigging something mostly beyond repair or I'm waiting for it to break down again. It's exhausting & stressful.

Another Case Of Southern Stigma...

This article details how an accepted applicant to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's department was refused a position as a deputy due to being HIV+ back in 2012.  The applicant had been accepted, all but a health exam.  His physical showed him to be in good health living with HIV.  The department rescinded the offer.

The man took his complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission back in 2012.  They took years investigating & dealing with the Sheriff's department.   In February, the EEOC determined a likelihood of illegality & sent it to the US Department of Justice.   In July the DOJ, determined he had the right to sue due to a violation of the American's With Disability Act.

The case is still ongoing.  This man will probably never get any form of reasonable compensation for this violation.  But, maybe this will teach this particular Sheriff's Office something.  Doubtful, but it might.

No Time...

I just back from shopping.  I've got about enough time to eat & sit down for a bit.  Then I have to go get the van's tires fixed.   So, busy, busy, busy.  Still, I'm glad they could get to me before the trip on Monday.   I don't need to deal with tire issues on the road.  More tomorrow.

Morning Running Around...

I had the van's tires looked at this morning.   I don't want a flat tire or 2 on the way to my specialist's office in Tulsa.   A while back the mechanics traded the front with the back.  The 1's originally in the front were the older tires.  It look's like it was a good idea to go have them checked.  Both the back tires need replacing.

That's a bit of $ I didn't want to spend, but its a spend it now or spend it later situation.  I'd definitely rather have the problem dealt with now then have a blow out on the highway.   Its not easy changing tires on the van & it could've wound up being both rear tires going out instead just 1.  That would've been my luck.

They had to order the tires.  Tomorrow, after we go shopping & deal with whatever other errands we have, I'll go deal with the tires.  Then we should be ready for the trip.  I hope.

Over It...

For the past several weeks, I've been receiving request to sign petitions against companies staying open on Thanksgiving (US).   I won't sign them.  I've offended people by telling them I wouldn't sign their petition.

I like Thanksgiving & I get people want to spend it with their families & friends.  But, still people have to work.  When I get these petitions they always pertain to retail stores staying open on the holiday.   They hardly ever, if ever, address other people who will be working on the holiday.   What about the people who work at gas stations, airports, service workers, cab drivers, emergency workers, etc...?  Are they supposed to take the day off as well?  I would hope not.

Before I was on disability I worked a lot of holidays.  I often choose to work them.  I had my reasons.  I could trade someone who wanted off & for another day I wanted.  I usually got paid a little more on the holidays.  Most importantly, I usually didn't have anyone to spend the holiday with.  So, by being at work, not only was I getting paid, I wasn't at home alone on a holiday with nothing to do.

There are a lot of people like I was then.  They need the $.  They don't want to be home alone.  They don't even celebrate the holiday in question.

Thanksgiving is about an ideal.  It doesn't have to be on any specific day.  If you work it, then celebrate it the day before or after.  Even if you do work it, will you be working all day?

This about people who want to be catered to on their very specific terms over a holiday that has only been regularly celebrated for less than a century.  Why not be thankful for the fact these people actually have jobs to go work?  Why not be thankful these people can afford to celebrate the holiday due to the work they have?

That's my 2 cents on the matter.  I won't sign any petitions  against working on the holidays.  It's better to be working on a holiday & getting paid, than to be home alone bored out of your mind.
