According to this abstract, genistein, a compound found in soy beans may aid in the fight against HIV. This isoflavone may be capable of impending the virus' ability to communicate with other cells. This lack of signal between the virus & other cells may inhibit the virus' ability to infiltrate host cells.
2 other interesting things about this compound; 1st, since it isn't directly interacting with the virus, resistance is thought be less likely. 2nd, since this is a plant based material, it may mean less toxicity than other pharmaceuticals.
There is no evidence that merely eating soy products will aid in the fight against HIV. Apparently the amount needed would be tremendous. There seems to be realistic hope that genistein could someday be part of the arsenal against HIV.
